first_imgBy WVUA 23 Reporter Mackenzie KochIf you passed by the University of Alabama Rec Center today, you may have noticed some students not typically found on a college campus.UA’s School of Engineering hosted 350 sixth-graders divided into 88 teams from 11 surrounding schools, teaching them that engineering is about so much more than you’d think. There’s a lot of fun in it, too.Student teams competed at building rockets, testing how different designs worked.Karson Holmes with the UA engineering school said it’s great getting children interested in the field.“Bringing them on campus was an incredible experience for them,” he said. “Showing them our campus facilities is important because it gets them excited and wanting to do this in the future.”last_img read more
