Catch of the tournament: Ingram’s stunning effort to dismiss Gayle leaves fans in awe

first_imgChris Gayle was at his lethal best for Kings XI Punjab against Delhi Capitals in Match 37 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday. The big-hitting West Indies opener was going hammer and tongs, smashing the Delhi Capitals bowlers all over the park after Kings XI Punjab were sent in to bat by Shreyas Iyer.Gayle was severe against Ishant Sharma and the two Delhi Capitals’ spinners in Sandeep Lamichhane and Amit Mishra. Both the spinners leaked aplenty as Gayle was depositing quite a few, including a 101-meter six, into the Kotla stands. | DD vs KXIP, IPL 2019 live score |Gayle got to his fifty in just 25 balls and there were no signs of him slowing down as the big man kept punishing the Delhi Capitals bowlers. It seemed only a miracle could stop Chris Gayle and Colin Ingram provided Delhi Capitals with exactly that.WATCH: Ingram-Axar’s perfect relay catchFull video here https://t.co/GBheBXTuTq #DCvKXIP pic.twitter.com/kTgWx7VgPeIndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 20, 2019Gayle had hit Sandeep Lamichhane in the first ball of his third over for a huge six and when he tried to make it two in two, he was caught at the deep mid-wicket boundary.Lamichhane had dropped the second ball of his third over short and Gayle, for the first time in the night, mistimed one into the night sky. Colin Ingram, who was stationed at deep mid-wicket caught the ball but realising the momentum was taking him over the boundary rope, he threw the ball into the field with a stunning backhand push.advertisementIngram, it seems, had clearly judged the effort needed to find Axar Patel who was running in to take the catch and complete the wicket. In the end, Axar didn’t move as he completed the catch with a smile on his face. Gayle had hit five sixes during his 37-ball 69 but perished while trying to add another big hit to his tally.Colin Ingram and Axar Patel’s terrific team effort left cricket fans on social media awestruck.
