Akinci writes to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

first_imgFollowing the collapse in the reunification talks, Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci has written to the members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) asking for their help in lifting the north’s isolation, it was reported on Thursday.Reports in the north said Akinci has sent a letter to the OIC informing it of the developments in the reunification talks, which took place in Switzerland two months ago.Akinci, whose breakaway Turkish Cypriot state has observer status in the OIC, described his side’s constructive and result-oriented stance in the talks. He reiterated that Turkish Cypriots voted in favour of a UN blueprint in 2004, which Greek Cypriots overwhelmingly rejected.Akinci reportedly said that the Greek Cypriot leadership did not display the necessary will for a solution during the Swiss talks. He urged the OIC members to help efforts to lift the “unfair and unjustified embargoes against Turkish Cypriots, who have a clear will in favour of a solution.”You May LikeFigLeaf Beta AppHow to Become Fully Anonymous Online in Less Than 3 Minutes?
